The South Aussie Hotel first opened their doors in 1860 by original owner, Robert Long. The South Australian Hotel was the third Hotel in Mount Gambier, Adam Lindsay Gordon drank at the pub on occasion.
The South Aussie is one of the only locally owned and family run hotels in Mount Gambier, once the smallest pub in town, now after extensive renovations its just gotten a whole lot bigger.
The outward appearance of the pub has hardly changed since the 1860's although extensive renovations have been completed internally. In the 1800's if more than a dozen men were in the front bar it was considered over crowded!
Today featuring a Bistro, Sports Bar, Gaming room, upstairs Function room and a new Bar / Dining area complete with an outside decking area, perfect for Functions, Dinner or just drinks.
